CoupleCo: Working With Your Spouse For Fun & Profit, is celebrating one year of weekly shows for couples in business together. This is a milestone, both for co-hosts Blaine & Honey Parker, and for their listeners worldwide. Every Wednesday, the United States-based Parkers provide a new, inspirational, insightful and often funny interview with couple entrepreneurs on how they make it work. It all went live on Valentine’s Day 2018. “It just seemed like the right day to launch a show about couples in love and business together,” says Honey Parker.

The seed for CoupleCo was planted when Honey & Blaine, whose Slow Burn Marketing specializes in brand-based marketing for small business, were frequently meeting married couples in business together. “We discovered there just aren’t many resources specifically for couple entrepreneurs, or for couples who want to start a business together,” says Blaine Parker. “We want CoupleCo to be that resource for the married couple brave enough–or crazy enough–to do this.”

One of the earliest challenges for CoupleCo? Not knowing if enough married couples would be willing to sit down and talk candidly about being in business with a spouse 24/7. “In a year of doing this, we’ve only ever had one couple back out. Maybe it’s because we do the interview in person,” says Blaine. “And we usually bring wine.”

While every new podcast faces challenges, some shows, like CoupleCo, are fortunate enough to enjoy real successes and victories. One such victory was bringing their weekly interviews to the entrepreneurial public for a year. And in the process, they got to enjoy the top of the charts. Several times, CoupleCo hit #1 on the iTunes podcast chart for Management & Marketing, beating such giants as Gary Vee and Harvard Business Review. (The Parkers are not letting this go to their heads. They know who the real giants are and admire them. It’s just nice to occasionally be in such illustrious company.)

Honey Parker is glad to have another big win: “We’ve survived 30,000 miles together during year one in the CoupleCoach–our compact trans-American land yacht. That’s just an over-the-top way of saying ’25-foot class-C RV’. Occasionally, it can be tense or even terrifying. We’ve enjoyed everything from flat tires to diesel leaks to occasional white-knuckle driving along dangerously narrow roads, sometimes with a steep drop off. And, of course, there’s all the corn. You drive through a lot of corn in this country.”

Blaine Parker says, “We’re thrilled to mark one year of this show. And we didn’t do it alone. We owe every one of the courageous couples we’ve interviewed. These people are willing to share their stories of ups and downs, tips and tricks, successes and failures. They’re letting other couples out there know they’re not in this alone; that it is possible to do this, and to succeed. Listeners have told us how much this means to them. And Honey and I often walk away from these interviews saying, ‘Wow, we need to be a better couple.’ Some of these people are amazing.”

Like many of the businesses they interview, CoupleCo currently consists of exactly two employees. Nonetheless, the Parkers have big plans for year two. One of their core objectives: “We’d like to reach 500,000 more listeners who are looking for inspiration and insight into how to make a CoupleCo work.”
